Without mediation, the image of happiness remains nothing more than what it is: an image, impotent and blind. Consciousness of unhappiness occasions reflection and with it the possibility of suspending repression. The name marks such a possibility and vouchsafes that which is named in the measured intimacy of its remoteness. As transition, the name represents the calling forth before which nothing may be identified.

 This is one of seven songs from the live program "The Lotus-Eaters of the West Coast" that was performed and recorded during a single night.
